It was selfish the minute they conceived a life to bring into this shit hole world. Of course that's my opinion. You nor I know what was REALLY going on in her head. The woman needed extra help. She's selfish for leaving the kid but if she took the kid out with her, then people bitch she was an evil mother/cunt/whatever.
