I wonder how much longer a neck can really get. Some photos found here on DR show no apparent stretching, but there are cases like this one where the neck gets visibly longer. Wish I knew why.

Would also really love to see an x-ray of such a neck, or a good drawing showing vertebrae, to get a better understanding of the process, so to speak.

I found some images, one showing the neck after some loss of curve treatment. In hanging the cervical spine gets stretched out a bit and it becomes obvious since we generally don't see the neck in that state, usually more compressed or curved.

Chinese pensioners hang themselves on bars by the neck and swing their bodies to treat spinal pain.


Neck elongation involves wearing ring-like collars around one's neck. In groups like the Padaung tribe of Southeast Asia, girls start wearing the rings as young as five years old.
