It is actually rude to point with the fingers in Thailand.
It was a lot ruder in the early 70's when I lived there. They are much more westernized nowadays, and it isn't that big a deal anymore (e.g. nobody would care on the beach at Pattaya). In some segments of society though, it is still frowned upon.
