Two bodies were discovered by the side of the highway on November 3rd, near the city of Tecolutilla in Tabasco, Mexico.

They were identified as 22 year old Karina Garcia and her 29 year old boyfriend, a seasoned criminal known locally as 'Serrano.'

Serrano had been shot elsewhere, then dismembered into several pieces, all of which were stuffed into plastic bags except for his head, which was lying next to a cardboard narcomensaje.

Karina, who was likely forced to witness the death and grim dismemberment of her boyfriend, had been killed at the dump site itself. She was gagged, with her hands and ankles tied with cords. Her throat had been slit and she likely died aspirating and choking on her own blood. Her hands and wrists were abraded and bloodied from her struggles against the cords that kept her tightly bound.

Serrano had a lengthy history with a local narco syndicate, but Karina had a legit job, had no criminal record and no known gang affiliation aside from her boyfriend, whom she had been dating for less than 6 weeks. Police believe she was murdered simply because she was with him when he was picked up.

As with much of the material from Mexico these days, the set is a mixed bag. Most of the images I could source focused on Karina. The few that included Serrano were almost all heavily censored. There is some censorship on Karina's images and some irritating watermarks. I am posting them here anyway and am also in communication with a couple of the photographers on the scene when she was found to try to source cleaner images. That is a slow process though and successful only a fraction of the time.

Some of the photos are also oddly blurred, as though the camera was unsteady. Not sure if its some halfass censoring or just bad camera work.

Anyway, here's what I have. Will add more if I can source them.

In this picture the weird colors indicate high ISO, so probably taken with a not so good camera, as for the image with the ‘afterimages’ on the horizontal axis; I have never seen such artifacts. The weird thing is that some of those are sharp so my guess is a bad camera (phone) with a dirty lens for some of the pictures.

Really sad to see all the cartel violence, especially if civilians are involved (if I was a Mexican woman, I would assume every male with tattoos is cartel, only some of the bosses don’t have any tattoos)

As a civilization we have made a mistake. We made drugs a criminal issue, instead of dealing with the problem as a health issue.

Since prohibition doest work, organised crime is thriving. Killing more than the drug itself.
We are denying our own shadows, our obsessive desire for drugs.

Of course poor countries are effected the worse.

So stupid. Until our politicians wake up, realise that we are not puraten, that we must admit that we have an ugly side and promote drugs as a health issue.
