Youhanabad Lynching: Mob Kills Two Men After Lahore Church Bombings, 2015
On March 15, 2015, twin suicide attacks struck St. John's Catholic Church and Christ Church during Sunday services in Youhanabad, a predominantly Christian area of Lahore, Pakistan. More than a dozen worshippers were killed in the bombings, which a Taliban splinter faction claimed. Hours later, protesters seized two Muslim men, Babar Noman and Hafiz Naeem, alleging they were connected to the attacks. The crowd beat and burned them after police present at the scene handed them over instead of pushing back the mob. Both were subsequently found to have no involvement in the bombings. Dozens were indicted by an anti-terrorism court over the lynching, and more than 40 were acquitted in 2020 after the victims' families accepted blood-money settlements.  · |
