Yang Xi Murdered by Her Husband, Severed Head Found at Sri Aman, Sarawak
Anglers discovered a severed human head along the Batang Lupar river at Jalan Skait Lama, Sri Aman, in Sarawak, Malaysia, on the afternoon of March 3, 2018. DNA testing identified it three days later as belonging to Yang Xi, a 31-year-old Chinese national whose name was reported by some outlets as Yan Xi. The remainder of her body has never been found. Wong Zing Haw, her husband and a pharmacist and businessman in Sri Aman, was detained on March 5, 2018, after making conflicting statements. He was charged with murder on March 16. Prosecutors said the killing occurred sometime between February 25 and March 3. With no body recovered, the case relied on circumstantial evidence. The Sri Aman High Court convicted him and imposed a death sentence on November 30, 2020. The Court of Appeal affirmed the conviction in May 2025, followed by the Federal Court on September 23, 2025. |
