I'm a machinist: This is why I *never* wear gloves or a long sleeve shirt, when turning. These things can bite you so fast and, quite clearly, they *always* win.

This is such a fucked up picture, and the worst part would be the minute or two of panic as you slowly get smooshed into something that resembles a garbage can in an Italian restaurant...Ick. Nice post though.

big lathes like that ( and a big workpiece as evidence of the use of the tailstock for support) is serious business..

HUGE amounts of inertia are generated.. even at low speeds ( like with hard metals like stainless or titanium.)

looks like steel.. probably had a few thousand RPM dialed in.

takes about 10 seconds for one to stop at that point.

... used to be a machinist myself.
