whatever it was, wa a large workpiece that ran all the way to the tailstock. looks like 3" O.D .. something big. probably had a high rotational speed. less torque, but theres fucking MASSIVE amounts of inertia generated from the weight of the chuck and the gearing all spinning. i had one scare one time on a lathe. a big one. like a 48" lathe. i used to be a machinist. once was all it took to keep my shit the hell away from EVERYTHING that moved..lol the thing is, you can fight the machine all you want, but leverage is on IT'S side with the pulling effect. no matter what the spindle speed is. and tensile strenght is on IT'S side when it grabs the "shoelace" looking little rope from your hooded sweatshirt or long hair or a tie or any article of clothing that catches the chuck jaws. fuck. gnarly as hell |
