Nope...and to be honest, I can remember joking around on the drive there about ending up dead somewhere, but that's all it was, joking. I had never seen anything like what we do on DR, so I had no real fears to compare anything to, but still, talk about naive and fortunate.

Note, however, that we virtually never see them torturing and murdering Americans. Especially women. Every so often some Mexican-American from Texas will wind up dead south of the border, but the circumstances always involve trafficking. The only Americans I recall getting iced by Cartels were either looking for drugs, moving drugs, or appallingly unlucky and accidentally stumbling onto some Cartel poppy field or meth lab while out hiking in the backwoods. The Cartels are brutal, but typically not stupid at the top. If they started torturing and butchering American tourists, it would bring them far more trouble than it could ever be worth...and I don't mean lack of tourism pesos. |
