In the early hours of October 20, 2022, Inelcina Tapia Guevara, 34, was asleep at her home in Guaitado, municipality of Lloro, Choco, Colombia, when her partner, Luis Antonio Bejarano, allegedly attacked her with a machete. He hit her 14 times, but neighbours entered after hearing her screams. Bejarano escaped through a window and ran into the bush.

Tapia Guevara lost her right hand and sustained injuries to her head, left hand and arm, back and leg. She was admitted to intensive care in Quibdo in critical condition and survived. The couple have three children. At the time of reporting, Bejarano remained a fugitive, and no capture has been reported.

Colombia registers a new atrocious tragedy of violence against women in the department of Chocó. The victim is I.T.G., 34, who is struggling between life and death after her partner inflicted 14 violent machete blows on her while she slept.

This brutal act of violence occurred during the early hours of Thursday 20 October in the village of Guaitado, Chirriqui, jurisdiction of the municipality of Lloró, department of Chocó.

According to preliminary reports she received 14 stab wounds to different parts of her body. Despite the seriousness of the wounds, the woman survived the attack, seriously wounded in the flesh, and is now fighting between life and death in an intensive care clinic in the capital of Chocó.

The perpetrator was identified as L.A.B., the victim's partner, with whom she has three children.

Witnesses told the authorities that the woman was sleeping when they heard the screams and when they reached the other room they saw the assailant attacking I. with a machete. Upon sensing the presence of the neighbours, the assailant ran out of the window and threw himself through it.

The woman suffered multiple wounds to her head, loss of her right hand, wounds to her left hand and arm, back, right leg and several mortal wounds. Her limbs were even amputated.

The authorities have not captured the assailant, who is a fugitive from justice.

This crime generated outrage in the department of Chocó because of the severity of the victim's injuries. Doctors fear her death because the woman was totally disfigured by her cruel assailant.

Seriously, I am thinking of buying one and stashing it near my front door. A machete is quite a weapon of war.

High outrage only because she was a Mom of 3, and really got cut up with lots of online photos of the carnage.

No public outrage if he had just taken the machete and swung at her a few times, minimal damage. That culture lets these guys think picking up a machete against a partner is ok, but just dont hurt her too badly ...
