Woman in her thirties was shot last night, once in the forehead and once in the belly while she was out in a neighborhood known for drug trafficking. Her teenage son had been assassinated a few months ago and she, herself, had narrowly survived a stabbing around the same time. The scars from her last assassination attempt are still very visible on her midsection in several of the photos.

Unlike many drug-related murders in Brazil, where the victims are forgotten as quickly as they died, many people from the neighborhood commented on this news story, saying that they knew the woman well. Despite her involvement in drugs, she was very well-liked and considered to be a kind and friendly lady. No one seemed surprised that she was killed, but a great number of people seemed saddened by it.

Still, with a dead son and previous attempts on her own person, one can't say she hadn't been given a sign to get out of 'the life.' Seems she must live and die by the choices she made.
