Passersby late Tuesday evening were alarmed to discover the corpse of a woman hanging from a noose beneath a pedestrian footbridge.

She was identified as 45 year old CU, a local resident in the area. There was mass concern that she had been murdered and hanged as some sort of warning (this is not a Cartel area and the region is not known for gang or drug violence, so parallels to that MO were confusing), but most signs pointed to a suicidal hanging. The police have not formally declared it as such, but preliminary investigations all point to suicide, including a history of recent depression.

The scene report and collected witnesses statements indicated that no one saw her hang herself nor did anyone see the body hanged by someone else. She was wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes.

The body exhibited no signs of external violence aside from the ligature mark. Her tongue was swollen and protruding between her teeth and the presence of blood was noted where she had bitten it while strangling. She had also urinated and defecated in her pants. Most of the above facts were consistent with death by suicidal hanging rather than her being killed elsewhere and the body displayed under the bridge, as some initial reports speculated.

Thanks. Took some work to run everything down and I spent several hours talking to some of the people that were at the scene, so sifting and collating statements and reports and theories took a lot of time. A little pissed off that I couldn't find an antemortem after all of that, but sometimes that's the way it goes.

Yeah, it's a downer when you can't get all the info or photos to complete it, especially after putting in many hours of work.

Considering the length of the rope, the depth of the bridge girder and the height of the guardrail, she must have put some real effort into rigging herself up like that prior to the drop. The rope is tied to the top rail, so she probably secured it, put the loop around her neck, and then jumped or let herself down more slowly. Not a trivial task. I also wonder what motivated her to make her suicide so public? People are so fascinating and do such strange things.

There’s some kinda foul play, that size of drop would have decapitated her. If she’s lowered herself down and there’s no rope marks on her hands I’d say she’s been hung
