PHILIPPINES - In the morning of September 26, 2017, 33-year-old lotto outlet caretaker M.A.P.A. was shot to death by 76-year-old businessman L.R.Z. She received gunshot wounds to her abdomen, left thigh and right arm. L.R.Z. later dumped M.A.P.A. on the roadside at Block 3 Lot 26, Phase 3b, Camella Homes, Barangay Linao, Talisay City, Cebu. He was not remorseful when he murdered her. He claimed M.A.P.A. stole money from him for several years and was planning to leave him for another man.

It started at around 8:00 AM that day when L.R.Z. was on board his white SUV with M.A.P.A. when he decided to confront her about her alleged cheating. He parked his car at the side of a local car dealership at Cebu South Coastal Road. He said she was stubborn and refused to answer his questions, but eventually confirmed his allegations. She angrily told him that she wanted to leave him. He begged her not to leave him, but she refused. Infuriated, he pulled out a pistol that he kept inside his car and threatened her. But, she dared him to shoot her, in which he did by shooting her in the leg. She screamed, but she taunted him to kill her. So, he decided to finish her off by shooting her several times. Realizing what he had done, he drove his car to the place I mentioned from the very beginning of the post, and then dumped her body.

He called one of his workers and asked him to prepare his motorcycle and meet him at a gasoline station in Barangay Lawaan I. He then went to Samboan, Cebu and took a ferry. He arrived in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte the next day [September 27, 2017], and then went to Sergio Osmena Sr., also in Zamboanga del Norte. He left his motorcycle at a hotel and looked for a secluded area in Barangay Venus, also in Sergio Osmeña Sr., where he contemplated suicide. After burying his cellphone, as well as some of his personal belongings, he drank 10 capsules of Valium and then tried to shoot himself, however the pistol did not go off. He came out, and then encountered and asked a barangay patrol officer for help, claiming that he was "robbed". However, local police caught him with a gun tucked on his hip that resulted in his immediate arrest.

He was sent back to Cebu the next day [September 28, 2017] for a police examination. He denied mauling her, and said it was the other way around. He had bruises coming from her. Afterwards, he was incarcerated. He said: “We should not love too much because we don’t know if we are just being used or not. We should not give all our love to someone. Besides, if they leave us, we can still find another one.”

M.A.P.A.'s mother said that M.A.P.A. and L.R.Z. were together for almost six years, but the latter physically abused the former until he murdered her. Earlier that year, she filed a complaint at Talisay City Police Station after he allegedly mauled her. However, she eventually dropped the complaint. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter from a previous marriage. She was laid to rest on October 1, 2017 at Carreta Cemetery, Cebu City.

Videos E (separately recorded by news outlets’ cameras) show the CCTV footage of L.R.Z. dumping M.A.P.A.’s body. I was also able to find the crime scene on Google Street View.
