Woman Found Dead in Her Yard Under Mysterious Circumstances
38 year old woman was discovered by her son, lying dead in her back yard with a telephone cord wrapped many times around her neck and fashioned into a makeshift noose. Suicide is not off the table. Medical history confirmed that she had a history of pill abuse and drinking problems and had two previous suicide attempts, one via rat poison and one were she tried to slit her wrists. Both were interrupted. Still, there are problems with the theory. Neighbors reported that they heard loud fighting in the yard around 4am the night before. The son claims that he left the house at 2am and that there were two people (whose names he did not know) drinking with his mother when he left. He claimed she was dead when he got back the next morning. The neighbors, however claimed, that they were pretty sure the fight was between the son and the mother. The son confirms a small argument, but claims he left before it got too heated. He has a record for several small drug offenses, as well, which does not help his case. There was some minor bruising on the body consistent with fist-fighting, but nothing fatal or injurious. The coroner reported that her body exhibited all of the usual signs of a strangulation death, but he could not determine suicide or homicide without further detail.  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  · |

The vector from which the ligature was applied, indicated by a directional contusion "notch" , if present, should shed more light on her body orientation at the time of strangulation.
