Woman Decapitated by a Kite Line While Riding, Brazil, 2015
A 36-year-old woman riding a motorcycle was decapitated on the Linha Vermelha expressway in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the afternoon of December 6, 2015. She was traveling toward the Baixada Fluminense on the stretch beside the Mare army battalion in the city's north zone. Military police found her severed head on the roadway about 100 meters from her body. Her body came to rest against the concrete barrier dividing the carriageways, and the motorcycle also struck the central barrier. Police investigated whether she had been cut by linha chilena, an abrasive-coated kite line that is banned but remains widely used. The kite line explanation was the principal police hypothesis reported at the time, not a stated final finding. Traffic on the expressway was stopped for about 20 minutes while authorities worked at the scene.  ·  · |
