Supposedly, P. was suspicious of J. cheating on him, and repeatedly confronted her about it. One day, when she yet again denied cheating, he got a machete and repeatedly struck her with it.

Immediately feeling remorseful, he got J.'s 13-year-old daughter to get a neighbour to call the police. P. then changed clothes and went to work, where he was arrested.

J. and P. had no children, but J. had three children from a previous marriage and had agreed to take care of P.'s three nephews.
