Re: Why Oh Why is He Yellow ?
Cabriolet is on the right track. Yellow jaundice is usually a condition associated with a bad liver. Causes include liver cancer, alcohol, Hepatitis B or C , multi organ failure or other lesser known conditions. HCHO (Formeldehyde can convert the yellow (Bilirubin) to green (Biliverdin). During the embalming process the HCHO can convert the yellow to green which can then require cosmetic improvements. If the body is kept under ultraviolet lights the yellow can be reduced. Most embalming "Jaundice fluids" contain an active dye which will overstain the discoloration. If any embalmers are reading this then you probably know that a pre injection fluid will flush some of the yellow away prior to the preservative injection. A jaundice body will be harder to preserve due to the higher demand for preservative, (HCHO), The more HCHO that is required the more green the outcome. A no win situation except there are modern fluids available that are HCHO free. Gluteraldehyde may be preferable and alcohol based fluids will provide a much better result. Oops.... Getting carried away... I,m not teaching students here.... |
