I have a theory, OBL is way to valuable for the US alive that it would be foolish of them to just kill him. Although if the US did take him alive and state that they captured him it could send the Muslims into a beheading spree demanding to release him, also tipping of terrorist leaders that he could snitch and making them hide. The story is abit odd the way they put it but the lies would be for national security and also allowing the US to keep the element
