In your Bowl of Brains post the prisoner is pointing to his crime also. What more evidence does the court need than a picture of the suspect implicating themselves.
No lawyer, just prisoner and officials. I'm sure the guilty parties confession is complete, leaving no questions.

Makes me appreciate our legal system.

Yeah, that's one thing that I'm always sceptical about when reading about murder investigations in other countries - if someone just conveniently makes full confession and wraps the whole thing up for the cops in a pretty little bow, you sometimes have to wonder, especially with places that have no interigation rules...
