Welcome to Liberia
A big collection from the fighting in Liberia. Since 1989, Liberia in West Africa had suffered one of the worst tragedies for the past five decades. Nearly a quarter million of people was killed due to the civilwar and most of the population were displaced. Finally, the international community paid attention to the small country when the fighting between the government and the rebels escalated again in the summer of 2003. Despite the US's suggestion of sending international forces, including US troops, the practical military deployment was delayed. Until the arrival in early August, the atrocities of killing, looting and rape continued. Now Taylor (former president) is facing the charge of war crime at the international court, after his exile to Nigeria and his arrest. But the real lasting peace has not come to Liberia yet. ---- some of these pics are already quite famous on the internet epspecially on different forums. Here are the originals and these was taken during the two sieges of Monrovia in the 90's and 2003. Some soldiers are seen wearing life vests and it's because some of them think it works as a flackjacket and makes them look bigger. ---- The Info has been taken from Q. Sakamakis own personal website and most of the pics are from there aswell. |

Re: Welcome to Liberia
I wonder- although it may seem horrific, wiping the place entirely out may kill innocent people but remove the parasitic infestation and one more country can start over.... and in peace (*I know... "peices") |
