here's the story http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/134099/...-off-in-taguig

MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – An explosion occurred in Lower Bicutan, Taguig City on Wednesday afternoon, killing at least 4 people and injuring 11 others.

Authorities said that members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) were attempting to defuse a mortar ammunition or vintage bomb in a welding shop when it suddenly exploded at around 3 p.m., according to Taguig City police chief Senior Superintendent Tomas Apolinario.

PO2 Rizaldy Bisaya and the welding shop’s owner Chris Daguio were killed in the blast.

PO3 Jose Taralba and 19-year-old Liza Grimaldo were declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

The wounded victims were rushed to Taguig-Pateros District Hospital to receive medical treatment.

They were identified as:

Olive Brion, 27
Jorelle Lariosa, 6
PO2 Arnold Mayo
Romeo Tagono, 16
Angelica Covan, 17
May Mendizabal, 35
Ronalyn Benben, 23
Annalyn Aquino, 25
Nelia Delara, 40

Two of the injured victims remain unidentified.

The local government of Taguig said it will provide assistance to the victims.

Police said vintage bombs are usually surrendered to the bomb disposal unit at Camp Crame.

“Normally, it is being reported sa ating bomb disposal unit in Camp Crame. Usually these are being brought to Tarlac for proper disposal,” said Senior Superintendent Federico Castro, deputy director for operations of the Southern Police District.

Re: Vintage Bomb Exploded

"Investigation showed that around 3 p.m., three Explosive Ordinance Disposal operatives... brought a vintage mortar shell to a welding shop...to diffuse it...

But being unsuccessful using a wrench, a worker from the shop used a welding machine that caused the explosion, he said."

Re: Vintage Bomb Exploded

I prefer sniping over bombing. Much more quiet and much less mess to clean up
