It's probably causal that minority crime is higher because of a structural lack of mental healthcare and recurring loop of poverty. My point is that, looking at all the data, it's wrong to focus on race like the original comment I replied to did. It's probably statistically more accurate to say that predisposition to "savagery" (for various reasons; necessity, thrill, etc) is a trait of people, of any race, in poverty.

While numbers don’t paint the whole picture, they do sketch a statistically significant outline. As such, citing DOJ statistics probably isn't a “blind” exercise. Furthermore, rebuking statistics in favor of “experience on this forum” is questionable.

Regardless, it is reasonable to aim statistical baselines toward poverty and mental illness. Those attributes influence crime statistics. Elaboration is de minimis.

A final (admittedly modified) point of agreement is that it’s incorrect to enlist race alone as the harbinger of criminal capacity.

All that said…

The stubborn perception linking race and crime is sustained by (among other things) interactions between two cognitive predispositions in people: 1) focus on stranger-to-stranger crimes and, 2) dependency on useful heuristics.

People tend to focus on stranger-to-stranger crimes because those crimes manifest despite personal security measures. Accordingly, fear of random assaults and robberies awakens the brain to necessary security triage. This triage is implemented through heuristics---which enable people to make efficient judgements via mental shortcuts.

Today, rising crime rates and videos of random assaults and robberies are synthesized into heuristics whose logic gates are hard to criticize. Adding senseless murders and feral lynchings makes the task even harder. Inconveniently, the heuristics burden the groups you seek to defend.

Alas, there is really nothing profound in the “black and brown people are mostly good” lecture. Most everyone knows that. Heck, it’s the only thing people are taught these days...to the detriment of common sense.

Your claim that including race in heuristics is attribution error via “structural racism” is intellectual slight-of-hand. Fortunately, peddlers of that narrative usually underestimate people’s intelligence. Only sycophants will allow their subconscience and self-preservation to be highjacked by ideological dysfunction.

Race in conjunction with cultural cues, intention movements, and survey of immediate surroundings can yield useful judgements…despite the prejudices those judgements harbor. Unfortunately, rather than denouncing criminals for damaging the reputation of their race, perverse social constructionists instead scold the victim pool for including race in their personal safety audits.

A protagonist usually drags at the apex of sociological macrocycles. The question is, “Who is it this cycle?”
