Actually, more uncomfortable than painful, as the symptoms are often mistaken for the flu - here's a good reference on it:

i always thought so. a fire is a little different than falling asleep due to say a gas leaking fire place. when i read in the news that a whole family falls asleep and never wakes up due to CM poisoning....so sad. get a CM alarm! it is colourless and odourless. I remember when this happened to Vitas Gerilitis. I have been trying to look for photos, but have never been successful.
