Chase became known as the Vampire Killer of Sacramento after a four day blood binge in January, 1978, in which he claimed six lives. A typically "disorganized" killer, Chase picked his victims randomly and left as much evidence as he could around his home and the crime scene. He drained his victim's blood, blended it with body organs and drank it to stop his own blood from turning into powder. |

We have "favorite" serial killers now? Wow... that's a comment on society if there ever was one. Chase did some truly horrible, unimaginable things and destroyed many lives. I was not aware that he commited suicide while in prison. I understand society's need to punish such a monster, and I am NOT a bleeding heart... I am a staunch proponent of the death penalty. However, it was pretty obvious from the get-go that Chase was suffering from schizophrenia and a severe psychotic break. Should he really have been in prison, or would lifetime confinement in a maximum-security psychiatric hospital have been more appropriate? At least in that setting, he could have received treatment for his illness, and had constant monitoring of his condition and response to treatment. We might have gained some insight into schizophrenia and into the mind of a disorganized offender, although his disoganization was a direct result of schizophrenia and psychosis... Should he have ever been released into society again? Absolutely not! |

This is absolutely sick and twisted, as it should be for this forum.  As for the guy who did this, Richard Trenton Chase was about the sickest of the sick in recent (within the last 50 years) serial killers: he was a cannibal and a vampire, he injected animal blood into himself because he thought his blood was turning to powder (or something to that effect), he blenderized and drank animal and human organs, and he bit the heads off of birds to drink their blood. This guy was batshit insane, and rather than getting sent to the nut house, he got the death penalty and committed suicide on death row by hoarding his pills and then taking them all on Christmas Day sometime in the 80s. BTW, he and I were born 30 years apart, he on May 23, 1950 and me on May 23, 1980.  |
