Various Deaths
1. On the night of 18th September in Igarapé, 26 year old C.B.M.D.S. was shot dead. 'C', who wore an electronic ankle tag, was murdered over a drug debt. A piece of paper with the names "Fábio" + "Regis" was left on his body.     2. Yesterday (19th September 2018) in the Kirivong district, 30 year old S.S. hanged himself. He had been depressed after separating from his wife + began drinking a lot.     3. On the afternoon of 26th April 2018 in Itabela, the decomposing body of 16 year old R.S.D. was found. 'R', who was 5 months pregnant, had been stabbed in her back several times by her 49 year old boyfriend C.S.P. Neighbours state that the couple lived together + were often arguing. She hadn't been seen since the 22nd April.     4. In Siem Reap on the afternoon of 16th September 2018, 38 year old O.B. died suddenly after becoming ill.       5. On 3rd September 2017 in San Francisco de Macorís, the body of 36 year old M.M.G.P. was found. The mother of 5 had been shot dead by her boyfriend, 26 year old A.G.R.

In a culture where men are breadwinners and women are mothers, it makes every sense in the world for both of them: she’s got all her childbearing years ahead of her, and he’s had decades to get his shit sorted and move up in the world. Also, in any culture with high levels of violence, a man of middle years has survived and is no longer at an age where he’s three times as likely to get involved in something stupid and fatal. Of course, in this particular instance, none of that went well for anyone. |
