Re: US Navy Helicopter Decapitation

It's a new beheading technique. Knives and chainsaws are so last season, helicopter beheadings are the future.

Re: US Navy Helicopter Decapitation

wind pitched it non horizontal while flying low.....what movie set did an actor get killed like this?
VIC MORROW, Twilight Zone.

In the early morning hours of July 23, 1982, Morrow and two children, My-Ca Dinh Le (age 7), and Renee Shin-Yi Chen (age 6), died in an accident while filming on location for the Twilight Zone: The Movie in Ventura County, California, between Santa Clarita and Piru. Morrow was playing the role of Bill Connor, a racist who is taken back in time and placed in various situations where he would be a persecuted victim: As a Vietnamese man about to be killed by U.S. soldiers. Morrow, Le, and Chen were filming a scene for the Vietnam sequence in which their characters attempt to escape from a pursuing U.S. Army helicopter out of a deserted Vietnamese village. The helicopter was hovering at about 25 feet above them when pyrotechnic explosions damaged it and caused it to crash on top of them, killing all three instantly. He was decapitated along with one of the child actors.

Re: US Navy Helicopter Decapitation

I wanted to add some additional information to this classic set. I've attached a photo of the victim, 39, when he was alive with his infamous stache.

And a few different accounts of the incident:

"I was on the Constellation when this happened, He ended up in our meat locker, pretty gruisome. He is actually a Chief From the USS Thach (FFG 43).

The Chief Petty Officer was killed March 19, 2001 when he helped to tie down one of the frigate's SH-60 helicopters during an emergency landing. Initial reports from the scene indicate that the fatal accident occurred while the main rotor was 'disengaging' and 'the blade dipped,' striking the Chief Petty Officer in the head, officials said.

He was a supervisor assigned to HSL-49, based at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA"
"That would be the ship it happened on. It happened a year or so before I checked onboard. the guy that Died was a Chief in charge of the helo det and was one of the on deck safey officers. The flight deck crew is supposed to approch the birds from the side where the blades are at the highest point of travel. The guy in question approched the bird from the front and from what I understand, the pilot bumped the control stick at just the right time causing the blade to dip down just as he was approaching. We had a small memorial to him in the Chief's Mess. I never met the guy, but my brothers in the mess that did know him said he was a great guy."
"This was a good friend on mine. This accident happened at the beginning of the WestPac and 9/11 at the end. The victim and I were in the mess right after a flight quarters was completed. Very shortly after that they called away an emergency flight quarters, as the crew reported a "firre" light was lit on the board. When the bird landed they diengaged the rotors before powering them with the APU - Auxiliary Power Unit. When this is done the rotors normally dip, and they did, unfortunately.

I don't know how the pictures got out there, but please be respectful. There is no "goatee" - a oustache and eyebrows are what you are seeing. "Brain matter" is grey - unless it's recently been bloodied, as obviously happened. The pictures have not been cropped, except for the technical info. The HM1 in the picture made chief after this, and was a welcome addition to the mess.

The victim was a Chief, a mentor and a friend. He was a person, and should be treated with the dignity afforded each person. He overlooks the harbor where the Thach is homeported from Point Loma right now, and is missed every day.

R.I.P. Shipmate."

Re: US Navy Helicopter Decapitation

Looks like his skull and brains got knocked out of his head leaving the back of his head still attached to his body, like an empty bag resting on his right arm.

Thank you! I was trying to figure out what that was!
