Some robbers followed a businessman home from the bank, apparently he made a large withdraw. They approached him at his home and demanded money, he refused and started shooting at them. Two robbers were killed on the spot, one got away.

Yeah a shot in the neck can be fatal. I served on a jury duty case where these men were riding in a car and the guy behind the passenger whipped out a pistol and shot the passenger in the back of the throat. He survived for about 5 minutes. Very painfully struggling to breathe. Then they dumped him in a neighborhood cul-de-sac and kept driving.
