my over imaginative mind thinks these girls may have been hired to perform on themselves in front of an audience then the audience decided to add a bit of gore in the film he was making when the girl-to-girl act did not seem enough  ...

i have known some cases where old perverts who lost ability to perform hired couples to perform while he watched and video the performance. the couple was okay with that but the old men decided to add whips and leathers forcibly. they didnt die but they filed a case to that effect. maybe this is just something done a bit harder.
