I got off the phone with my mom a few hours ago. They were in that area again, and decided to stop by a local cemetery. There were several similar headstones with just initials, and when my dad saw they were marble that would explain why they were broken off the way they were despite the original location. Also, the people from the historic society said the one pictured was most likely a military marking, and an aerial shot of the neighborhood from 1936 showed it as being farmland. That's everything that's known at the moment, and a lot of it could be argument for or against graves being there. One neighbor did express interest in seeing if there were coffins in his yard. |

hello... there were headstones.... obviously somebody knew enough to make it for them... most candidates for unknown graves are the desrt, the sea, forest quicksands and such...

This is fascinating!! I would love to know all that was down there!! I would imagine any one of us could have hidden treasures under our yards!! What are they doing with the headstone now? |

Better move before caskets start rising from the ground ejecting flying corpses... I saw it on TV once, these people bought a house with unmarked graves in the yard and then all Hell broke loose...

They were put back in the ground and covered up again. My mom wasn't a huge fan of potentially disturbing graves on top of everything else.
