Two Die of Exposure After Land Rover Breakdown, Talawana Track WA 2005
A 21-year-old and a 40-year-old man, thought to have been uncle and nephew, died from thirst and exposure when their Land Rover failed on the Talawana Track, on the edge of the Gibson Desert in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. They left on March 28, 2005, and a station hand found them on April 8, but took several days to reach a place from which he could report the discovery. Their remains were retrieved on April 11. They may have been dead for up to two weeks, and their dog also died beside them. Their camp was roughly nine kilometres from Georgia Bore, an operational water bore. A Western Australia police sergeant said they were poorly prepared and inadequately informed, and had not notified any agency of their planned route. Neither man was identified in reporting. |
