Sadly, death penalty has been abolished in Brazil ( it is still possible during wartime, though).
However, the man won't die of old age, in prison, for sure.

Unfortunately most addicted don't "Turn their life around" like in the movies. Life is more intense in these countries and what you have is not easily replaced. Problems with crime are dealt with a warning and a solution. I worked in addiction for a time and it has too many memories for some to take it seriously.
