I've been coloring this black and white picture for a long time and I'm not really happy with the outcome and since I've already spent many hours on it I'm just going to share it now and move on. I only colorized the first picture, the original is at the end. I had to guess the skin color but they were starting to decompose. This case is at least from before 2008.

Twin brothers committed suicide together with a gunshot wound to the head from self-constructed shooting devices, they were found sitting together on a sofa. The firearms were manufactured by the victims who used machined metal tubes with 12-gauge shotgun ammunition. The mechanism of action relied upon direct impact on the firing pin rod; with a hammer.

Fig.1 Twin brothers dead on a sofa with self-inflicted gunshot wounds to their heads. One brother is holding a homemade firearm. [Colorized]

Twin 1

A 27-year-old man was found dead on a sofa at his residence. He had a history of recent employment difficulties and depression. A suicide note was present. The victim had shot himself through the mouth causing destruction of the hard and soft palates and laceration of the lips. There was also extensive comminuted and compound fracturing of the facial skeleton, the base of the skull, and the calvarium. At autopsy, the body was quite decomposed with traumatic disruption of the brain, which contained numerous 1 to 2 mm shotgun pellets. Blood spatter was present on the right hand and a homemade firearm was present between his legs with a 12-gauge shotgun cartridge in situ. A metal hammer was also present next to the gun.

Twin 2

The 27-year-old twin brother of the above, was found dead on the sofa beside his brother. He also had a history of recent employment difficulties and depression, and a suicide note was present. The findings were very similar to his brother with extensive comminuted and compound fractures of the facial and cranial skeleton and laceration of the brain. Plastic wadding from a shotgun cartridge was present inside the cranial cavity. The victim was holding a homemade firearm similar to that found before and a rubber hammer was present next to the body. The victim was a bicycle mechanic and had manufactured the weapons used. Toxicological evaluation of both brothers revealed low levels of alcohol, possibly related to putrefactive changes, and no common drugs. There were no indications of other injuries or scene disturbances to suggest homicide or murder-suicide.

Homemade guns are less often used in Western countries where individuals, particularly criminals, have ready access to carefully-machined, commercially-made, precision weapons. Even in situations of ready availability of standard weapons, such as the conflict in the Balkans, homemade guns are still being produced. Certain problems exist with homemade firearms as they vary greatly in quality and thus cannot be relied upon for accuracy. In addition, the use of backyard equipment and materials such as low-grade steel for their construction means that the weapons may be dangerous to use as they may jam or explode, resulting in wounds or injuries from backfiring and shrapnel.

~ They did everything together, even unto the end. That is true love. No matter how gay it may seem.
~ It sadly reminds me of this story about twins that did that too.

I think you did a fantastic job with the colourisation. It’s sad that they killed themselves, but together in life and in death.

For amateur firearms, those are some magnificently constructed items! Were these guys machinists?
If they had just shown the firearms they made to a machine shop, they would have gotten immediate job offers, I'm sure.

You have to be pretty dedicated to shooting yourself just to spend all that time and effort creating that. They could have easily gotten jobs at Smith & Wesson or any of the other thousands of firearm companies, assuming this was in the United States.

Oh the irony that the ultra-talented twin who made the “thing” that killed them could not find a decent job!!
