David Cook, a 70-year-old British tourist from Stoke-on-Trent, England, died at Ochheuteal Beach in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, at about 6 p.m. on January 5, 2017. He was sitting in a rattan beach chair in front of the Bucket Bar after drinking one cocktail and one glass of beer when he gasped for breath, stared upward, convulsed and fell back in the chair.

People with Cook moved him onto cushions beside the chair and attempted first aid, but he died at the scene. An examination by the deputy head of the provincial health department recorded heart failure as the cause of death. Cook had entered Cambodia on a tourist visa on December 18, 2016, and had checked into the nearby GBT 2 Guest House earlier on the day he died. His body was taken to the Sihanoukville provincial referral hospital pending arrangements with his family and the British Embassy.
