Tibetan Sky Burial Photos: Body Prepared for Vultures at Charnel Ground
A Tibetan sky burial is a traditional Vajrayana Buddhist funeral observed across the Tibetan plateau. During the ceremony, called jhator, rogyapa specialists cut apart the deceased person's body at a charnel ground and leave the flesh for vultures. The bones are then crushed and combined with barley flour so the birds consume the remainder; offering the body to the birds is regarded as a final gesture of generosity. Such photo collections have circulated for years with false captions linking them to murder and cannibalism, but they depict a religious funeral rather than a crime. |

Wow, sooooo misinformed! These are pics from a Sky Burial. That's NOT a pregnant woman, it's a chubby nun. No murder happened here. |
