Three Killed in Cash-in-Transit Ambush, Magelang, Indonesia, September 15, 2009
On September 15, 2009, gunmen ambushed a cash-in-transit vehicle on Jalan Raya Gulon in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. The Isuzu Panther was carrying about Rp 2 billion from Bank Danamon Magelang to Yogyakarta when it was fired on from a black Suzuki APV and struck an electricity pole. All three occupants were shot in the head at close range. They were police escort Brigadir Murdiyono, 51, driver Agus Sutrimo, 37, and cash transport worker Arif Wirohadi, 30. Police arrested Kusdarmanto at his Yogyakarta home on September 17. He was identified as a Brimob officer, although accounts conflict on whether he was serving or had been dismissed at the time of the attack. Investigators said he used an AK-101 rifle and acted with at least one civilian accomplice. Kusdarmanto was convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to death in 2010. The sentence was upheld on appeal and cassation, and his petition for judicial review was rejected in 2021. An accomplice was also sentenced to death. What happened to the money was not established. |
