I don't know why, but you made me think of the old Burma Shave sequential message signs (part of the message was written on each separate sign so that you drove maybe 1/4 mile to read all of them) that used to be along the sides of the highways, and the takeoffs of them we used to do. First, here is a real one that I remember: "Those who pass; Where they can't see; May get a glimpse; Of eternity" (four signs). Here is a takeoff: "Bye Bye Paul, We won't bawl; No one misses; You at all!" (again, four separate signs).
