sometimes I wonder if there are just as many investigative pointers/law enforcement pointers/crime scene pointers in america, it's just that we never get to see them because shit like this is never really available to the public.

Yes, just what did go on? The planks had to be further apart for her to get her head between them in the first place. Now might it be the case that the owner caught her in the act and pushed the planks together to choke her? It is possible that we are dealing with a murder here.
