Re: Thailand - Death Mix

It is not possible to get electrocuted from the ear buds of a smart phone. There has to be more to this.

Re: Thailand - Death Mix

The building jumper has been posted previously, but it was a long time ago. I wonder what floor she fell from. Except for the blood oozing from her nose, one might think she could have survived. Of course the unseen portion of her head may be badly smashed. Sad case if she jumped; sadder if she was pushed.

Looks like he had part of the cord in his mouth... saliva and maybe an exposed wire might have mixed badly...?

It is possible if the faulty charger passes through high AC voltage that will burn through the phone's ICs right into the audio port and wire.

I can recall at least 5 episodes like this on DR, over the past 5 years or so. They all look like this, as well.
I would be very curious to hear the actual mechanics of how your cell phone charger can electrocute you. I would expect the most common failure mode would be failure to charge, that is, no output at all, in which case you bang the thing a couple times, then curse it out and toss it in the trash. Any electrical experts on here who know how this happens? There must be a way for the 115 VAC (or 220 VAC for Europe and the rest of the world) to move through the phone and wind up killing the person using the phone, but how exactly does it happen?
I'm all ears!
(Except for the rest of me, which is all the rest of me.)

It is possible. happened here a few times. the new versions of phone chargers only have a very minor isolation of DC current from the AC. and board coppers have just a few hair's thickness gap between each other. surge of electricity can cause one or two copper/parts to pop and make a bridge between AC and DC. at least that's how it was explained to us by phone manufacturer's engineering team in a mobile phone production plant we visited once. this was a legitimate certified plant. so how much more unsafe if it was made in some backyard in china, india or taiwan?

the dc negative contact of earphone is directly connected to the body negative of phone and directly connected to the dc negative of usb cord plugged into the charger. so its a direct connection up to the earphones. and earphone cords are notorious for cracking and leaking when old enough.
