No not really. Bangkok has far less violent crime than most western cities.

Cheap and plentiful sex in a semi regulated industry, but beyond that Bangkok is a very modern and quite safe city.

Farang is "white foreigner" in Thailand. Many people discover how inexpensive it is, the great weather, awesome scenery, common use of english, and very friendly people and decide to stay instead of "just getting by" back home.

Youtube has vids of farangs living decently for $500/mo or a fairly luxurious upper middle class lifestyle for $1500/mo, including a nice, brand new high rise condo in a pool building.

No need for the "massage parlors" where 100+ girls are on display, unless you want variety. Plenty of 30-70 something farangs with Thai college girlfriends roaming Bangkok.
