Re: Teenage Filipina Found Dead With Attorney
Duterte is getting down and dirty over here. I hope he also includes illegal gambling and other illegal businesses that are extremely harmful to nature and environment like illegal logging and toxic waste dumpings in populated areas

Re: Teenage Filipina Found Dead With Attorney
Well apparently, they may never know why she was in the car with him. TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines -- The parents of the young woman slain Tuesday with the lawyer of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. and his son Kerwin hinted they see little chance of getting justice for her death as they called on authorities to ensure the innocent are spared in government’s war on drugs. Jennifer and Joel Bonita said they learned of the death of their daughter, Angelika, 19, through radio reports late Tuesday afternoon. Angelika, whose school records show she was a Grade 9 student of Sagkahan National High School, was initially described by police as 15 years old. Her class adviser, Manilyn D. Cabaltera, described her as a regular student “struggling” to finish high school. She was in the passenger seat of the pickup driven by lawyer Rogelio Bato Jr. when it was riddled with bullets by still unknown gunmen in Lumbang 2, Calanipawan, Tacloban City. Both victims were hit in the head. Jennifer, a laundrywoman, said her daughter attended school regularly. The Bonitas are beneficiaries of government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. Jennifer and Joel, a painter who works only when it is available, said their earnings are barely enough to feed their family and that whatever they receive from the 4Ps went to their daughter’s school supplies. "Kahit wala siyang baon pumapasok siya sa school. Kahapon nga Milo lang ang baon niya sa bag niya (Even without an allowance she goes to school. Yesterday, Milo was all she had in her bag)," Jennifer said. The couple said they had no idea who Bato was until Tuesday but disputed talk their daughter and the lawyer had a relationship or that she was a drug user. "Hindi ako naniniwala na may relasyon sila ng abogadong ‘yun (I don’t believe she had a relation with that lawyer)),” Jennifer said. “Bakit dinamay pa ang anak ko? Kung sakali man na gumagamit ng droga ang anak ko, ako na mismo ang magpapasuko sa kanya. Pero hindi e. Inosente ang anak ko (Why involve my child? If she used drugs, I myself would give her up. But, no. My child was innocent)." Joel said he believes government should stamp out the drug menace but stressed it should spare the innocent, especially the poor. "Maganda ‘yang kampanya laban sa ilegal na droga kasi dapat naman talagang labanan ‘yan, pero ang hinihingi ko lang sana imbestigahan muna nila ang tao para malaman kung sangkot ba talaga ito (The campaign against illegal drugs is good because we should really fight it, but I ask that they investigate people carefully to determine whether they are really involved)," he said. "Gaya niyan, wala ka namang magagawa pag mahirap ka lang (Like this, there really is nothing you can do when you’re poor),” he said. “‘Yung mga sinasabi nilang drug runner ang anak ko, hindi totoo ‘yan. Kung ganu’n nga dapat maganda sana ang kalagayan namin (Those who claim my child was a drug runner, it isn’t true. If it was, our lives should be better),” Joel said. “Parang nilalagyan nila ng pampabigat ang aming mga paa para malunod na lang. Dapat laliman ang imbestigasyon para maklaro kung ano talaga ang totoo, kasi kung hindi marami pang mga inosente ang magagaya ng anak ko (It’s like they are weighing down our feet to drown us. They should deepen their investigation to get at the truth because, if they don’t, more innocents will end up like my daughter),” he said. “Nananawagan kami sa tamang hustisya para sa anak ko (We appeal for proper justice for my child)," he added. Re: Teenage Filipina Found Dead With Attorney
That is the vow of our new president. death to all drug abusers. they were given time to turn themselves in for a given time, with a warning that if they do not come out in the grace period Duterte gave, all bets are off to all who will be proven and caught. And a lot of killings recently with almost all victims implicated in drugs, also with abuse of power in government and stealing of government funds. Of course nothing really points out to the president's involvement as it always comes out as vigilante killing. But the president just shrugs his shoulder and do not really give an all out effort to investigate about it.

Re: Teenage Filipina Found Dead With Attorney
My wife is from the Philippines, and is quite cynical about both the government and the drug dealers. Her (extended) family is involved in both areas. In her view the local government, including the judiciary is a bought and paid for arm of the drug establishment in many places. Thus going through the "proper legal process" is a dead end proposition as far as getting rid of the drug lords is concerned. The alternative: "extra judicial exterminations" has its own drawbacks as there is extensive "collateral damage". Pick your poison.

Re: Teenage Filipina Found Dead With Attorney
That's it exactly. If you got money or connection, you could never be wrong. if you're poor, you're always guilty even when you're not. before this new president, there's even VIP rooms in the jail for bigwigs inmate and can go in and out as they please as long as they come back on time for inspection of attendance. Now they voted in power one who promised to bypass most of normal judicial process when one is found to be guilty beyond reasonable doubt. They just go and they put it down as vigilante killilng |
