Teenage Blues Land Another in the Noose
Not the best set of images here, but it's been a slow news week on my end, so I'll post them anyway. Mexico doesn't feature photos for hangings nearly as often as they used to do and seldom with the same quality they once did, but I still see one pop up now and again. This young teenage girl (who lived in the back of the family store with her parents) had recently returned home from after-school athletic practice. She was called to dinner by her mother, who went to check on her when she didn't respond. She found her hanging beside her bed still wearing her school uniform, with a scarf attached to the top bunk wrapped around her throat and serving as a noose. She had seen the girl only 20 minutes earlier, so she hadn't been dead long, but she was too far gone to save. The mother's screaming apparently alerted neighbors to the tragedy, so a sizable crowd had gathered outside the store by the time emergency response showed up. The news report indicated that the girl was a top student in her class with no history of emotional problems, no known relationship drama, a healthy social life, and no illnesses. She was well-behaved and got along happily with her parents. She didn't leave a note, her friends knew nothing about any problems, and everyone who knew her was generally confused by the events. Depression was obviously cited as a likely cause, in absence of any other data. This is a part of Mexico where the news media is not typically allowed inside the house of a crime scene (some areas they walk right in and take dozens of pics for the papers), so most of the images consisted of outdoor crowd shots. Surprisingly, there are a few photos of her body, though none are particularly high quality. Still, good enough for a slow news week. |

Hah, thanks. I try to make them catchy enough to get folks to click. Was tempted to make a title involving soccer somehow, since she appears to have choked herself out while wearing her soccer uniform from school. But finally decided against it. One needs to maintain levity, though. |

Re: Teenage Blues Land Another in the Noose
I say this every single time, but at 15 it's just hard for them to realize how different life will be in a couple of years. All those problems that seem like they're the end of the world, aren't. I feel bad for her parents, it seems like they were raising her the right way and she was trying to be a good kid.

Re: Teenage Blues Land Another in the Noose
Yeah, the hormone fluctuation and inability to fully process the realities of actions and consequences are often a strong catalyst in these teen suicides, I think. Their brains are out of balance and in flux and things shift out of proportion too drastically for some of them. That said, I run across a lot of these young teen suicides in Mexico while looking for photos. I don't post most of them here because they seldom include photos, but it is disturbing how many times it comes to light after their suicide that they were being molested or raped by a family member, teacher, or family friend. Disturbingly common contributing cause to this sort of event. I hope it wasn't the case here-it often seems to be the ones where 'no one knew there were any problems' that wind up with the late-night creepy uncle in the works. |

Re: Teenage Blues Land Another in the Noose
It's also Mexico. I'm sure I'll get a few "dislikes" for that, but so much of that country is fucked. If it isn't poverty or corruption, it's crime and the cartels. It seems like this young lady at the very least didn't live in poverty, but you're right, who knows if Uncle Juan or Jesus was wanting to be more than just her uncle. At 15 you're not capable of seeing all the ways out of the situation and that life can get better. |

Re: Teenage Blues Land Another in the Noose
I actually doubt that it was the case here. It doesn't look (pure supposition here) to me like this was an intricate planned event. I have seen some suicides that were meticulous. This girl didn't even bother to change out of her soccer uniform before hanging herself. Based on scene evidence, it doesn't look like she did any preparation at all. Just came home from school, went straight to her room, and hung herself with the first thing she found lying there-a scarf. My guess would be that something specific occurred at school that day to trigger the action. She may have already been suffering from depression, but the suddenness and lack of apparent preparation lead me to believe that this was fairly spontaneous and in reaction to a particular catalyst that was still very fresh in her mind. Pure guesswork from my end, though. |
