Teen Strangled, Dumped, and Partially Burned
Generating far more outrage than the usual female homicide, this case has been all over the Dominican news this week, with several protest marches complaining about lack of police protection in the area. Details are still largely sketchy and no solid suspects are yet identified, though there's a missing boyfriend who is currently a POI in the investigation. This teenage girl, already enrolled in several preliminary Psych classes at the local college, was kidnapped by parties unknown, then strangled to death, and then dumped in the woods and set on fire. The body was discovered shortly after the start of the fire (one of the videos I will include at the end has the fire still openly burning in it), but it is obvious from some of the footage that rigor has already set in. They have not yet clearly determined when she died, but her body showed several signs common to death by strangulation (fractured hyoid bone and the presence of urine and feces in her jeans), so that is the currently reported cause of death. The hyoid bone is only detected in the postmortem, of course, but the staining on her jeans is pretty obvious. There is significant thermal damage to the head and upper body, but very little in the lower torso and none at all below the waist. It is not known exactly how long she was burning for prior to discovery. |

Images of the girl when last seen alive, captured on CCTV. The man in the orange shirt with her is her 36 year old step-father. The following day he confessed to the crime of strangling her to death and burning the body because she would not enter into a relationship with him.  ·  ·  ·  · |
