Teen Killed On the Way to Grandmother's House
Teenage girl was found dead in a vacant lot when she didn't show up at her grandmother's house as expected. Search parties found her within a few hours, but she was long gone by then. Cause of death was a knife slash across the throat, severing the carotid. Hair and bits of skin were found under her fingernails, indicating that she resisted her attacker and tried to fight off the painful death that was to come. She had gone to her mother a few days before saying that she'd been threatened by a man who she saw having sex in the woods. The understanding was that the man was committing adultery and threatened her not to tell anyone or she would be punished. Unfortunately she did not know who he was by name and her mother could not ID him either, though he is held up as the primary suspect in her murder.  ·  ·  ·  ·  · |

Well, at least in this case the rape kit came back negative, so she was not sexually assaulted. 'Only' murdered.  Still, something of a mercy I suppose.
