17 year old Indonesian student got in trouble in class for playing on her cell phone. Her mother confiscated the phone and grounded her from it in hopes that it would improve her school discipline. So a few days later, she sold her motor scooter and used the proceeds to buy TWO new mobile phones. Guess she was really jonesing for some Angry Birds.

Anyway, she had a big row with her mother when her mom saw the phones and confiscated them as well.

The girl was then discovered hanging from a jackfruit tree about 100 feet from the house later that night.

The circumstances are pretty clear, even if the photos are not the best quality. She didn't leave a note, but the police submitted the usual report to the newspapers, who printed it in the article and is available here after translation:

17 year old decedent used a 3-meter ladder from the property to climb the jackfruit tree and affix a length of blue rope, which she used as a noose and stepped off of the ladder, bringing about death by asphyxiation.

The victim was carrying a purse containing a pair of sunglasses, lipstick, face powder, and two ballpoint pens.

She was barefoot and had minor injuries on one ankle, presumably caused by her foot slamming against the ladder as she convulsed in the final throes of strangulation.

When taken down for inspection, she was found to be wearing a white Hello Kitty shirt, a white hijab, black jeans, a purple bra, and white panties (which were noted to contain evidence of urine and feces).

Her body bore no injuries aside from the ligature mark from the rope and the ankle abrasion. Her tongue was also noted to be swollen and protruding from her mouth. The police indicated that protruding tongue, ligature furrow, and the voiding of bowels and bladder are all classic signs of a death by hanging and, combined with the circumstances, ruled the incident a suicide. The family agreed with the decision and opted not to have an autopsy conducted.

Same way I knew she wore a purple bra or that she loaded her drawers while dying.

As stated in the original post, the police report submitted to one of the news sites I follow included a listing of the clothing she was wearing as well as the contents of her purse.

To wit, a white Hello Kitty shirt, a white hijab, black jeans, a purple bra, and white underpants.

Most countries I draw cases from do not offer anything beyond the most basic level of detail for suicide scenes. Indonesia, however, has a precedent of including a significant amount of detail about both the scene and the decedent. Certain news agencies have begun editing out some of the more lurid items (mostly references to the decedents' undergarments and the presence of bladder/bowel voids) from the reports in recent months, but there are always a few agencies who continue to publish the police/DSI report verbatim.

I stand corrected. I suppose technically it was over 3 cell phones, counting the first one her mum confiscated.
