Re: Teen Girl Beaten and Strangled by Classmate and His Family
Oh, I don't know. Haven't you dealt with fathers who take the attitude: "You've made your decisions, kids, now live with the consequences." Our precious "free will" comes with a price tag. This argument is as old as mankind, and the record just keeps spinning non stop. In over two thousand years neither side has been able to shut down the other.

Because the only argument is violence, not words. Religious kill other religious. Atheists kill Atheists. Sometimes they kill each other (like when atheist jews did the holodomor)

in other words we are like monkeys believing we understand something, when its really out of our capacity of intelligence. I believe god existed sometime, but now he is gone. |

Re: Teen Girl Beaten and Strangled by Classmate and His Family
While disinclined to entertain the notion of your figurative father existing, it shouldn’t be that hard to wrap one’s head around the notion that we make the world this way. Were I omnipotent, I’d not be inclined to puppet people around. That’s not being a figurative parent, it’s right next to daydreaming, just puppeteering around real people, not letting them fuck up, learn, grow, develop and evolve, which is pretty much textbook bad parenting. The idea of a parent that’s never gonna really help you out, and that’s always gonna be there to judge you and punish you for anything you diverge on, while also never coming to see you as an adult, is revolting enough without throwing a lot of omniwhatevers into the mix. This stuff is happening far less than it used to, all over the world, due to birth control, education, science and engineering with what that has done for prosperity (and, thus, for peace). The dwindling of religion has also helped a lot, especially by no longer standing in the way of stuff that actually helps us. Let the book dude Rest In Peace. We can break it and fix it all by ourselves now. |

You make some worthwhile points, above. However, I am inclined to think that we (modern societies) are, in general, doing a better job of breaking than of fixing.
