Teacher Killed Inside the Classroom.
This picture makes me sad. NEWS RELEASE February 7, 2012 TEACHERS CONDEMN THE BRUTAL KILLING IN MASBATE The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) condemns the killing of public school teacher in Masbate province last week. Loida Pagatpat, a 51 year-old teacher of Antipolo Elementary School in Palanas town was shot and killed inside her classroom last Friday, February 3. A grisly image of the crime where her dead body lies beneath the teachers’ table and chair is now uploaded in Facebook by an account identified itself as a son of Pagatpat. “This gruesome murder is beyond imaginable. How could gunmen just shoot and kill a female teacher inside her very classroom?” Said Benjo Basas. The group raises alarm over this case which shows that “no one of us is safe anywhere.” Just last week, according to news reports, another Masbate teacher was stabbed to death inside the school. The group condemns the murder and seeks justice for Pagatpat’s family. “We condemn this heinous crime and we call on the authorities- police, local government units and the Department of Education (DepEd) to act swiftly and bring justice to teacher Loida, her family, her students and the entire school community.” Basas furthered. The TDC reiterates its call on the authorities to further secure the schools and protect the school personnel and children. “This crime is not just a crime against an individual teacher; this is an attack against the profession and is harmful to the service of education.” Basas ended. The TDC is a part of the global effort to eliminate attacks in schools-Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA)- whether coming from government’s military and paramilitary forces, rebel forces or even from the criminal elements. |
