Taxidermist Shoots Two Armed Robbers Dead at His Home, Randfontein, 2010
On August 24, 2010, two armed robbers were killed at a taxidermist's residence and workshop in Green Hills, Randfontein, on Johannesburg's West Rand, South Africa. News24 named the taxidermist as 36-year-old Jacques Fouche. While he was assisting a client with loading hunting trophies, a gang entered the premises, ordered Fouche, the client and an employee to lie down, tied their hands, demanded cash and firearms, and struck him on the head with an R5 rifle. After freeing himself, he picked up a shotgun that misfired, then armed himself with another and traded shots with the robbers outside. As he took cover behind his bakkie, he was hit in the right foot. Two gang members died at the scene, while police arrested another two and connected the group to four robberies over three days. The dead men, said to be among the West Rand's most wanted, were not identified in press reports.  ·  · |
