Tabasco State Police Kill Two Suspects Near Comalcalco, Feb. 7, 2018
On February 7, 2018, Tabasco state police stopped a Ford Focus at a checkpoint on the Comalcalco-Paraiso road. The vehicle fled, prompting a pursuit that ended in a gunfight at the intersection locally known as la Chevrolet. Of the four occupants, two were shot dead and two were detained. No officers were reported injured. The state security secretary said the occupants of the car fired first. The state attorney general's office processed the scene. The shooting was attributed to Mexican Federal Police, but contemporary coverage identifies Tabasco state police, with the operation announced by the state security secretary; no source places federal officers at the scene. Claims that the car held two men, both of whom were killed, do not match reporting that four people were inside, two killed and two detained. Reporting described those killed only as alleged criminals. No source identified either man as a drug trafficker, reported drugs being found or named a cartel. The identities of the two men killed have not been made public. |
