Swimming Hole
Want to see what happens when a cemetery floods and the person is buried as cheaply as possible ? Here you go. The ground retains a shit load of water as it is, and any disturbance in the ground will, no matter how deep or shallow, no matter the size or shape, hold more water. Even when filled in properly with any hole, usually the bottom 1/4 does retain water depending on the soil composition. If in a low lying area subject to high waters, it's even worse. Then you can and do have the perfect storm of circumstances every now and again. Any soil with a decent amount of clay doesn't tend to let the water escape back out of the hole. It retains some water all year round, but during storms and such, it gets worse as you can imagine. Now, take a grave that contains a lot of clay, is in a low lying area that's subject to floods, and a shitload of rain, and the body is not buried in anything but a cheap casket made of particle board, and you have this. Cemeteries flood all the time in some places, especially if they are below sea-level. It happened during Katrina in the south, and others all over the country at different times. Usually buried in vaults and caskets as well, it's usually not a big deal to deal with, but in certain cases as with this one, you're in for a long stinky ass day despite your best efforts. |

Re: Swimming Hole
They buried it shallow too which didn't help, must have listened to the grave digger song too many times, but I assure you they aren't feeling the rain. They should have dug a decent grave to begin with, like this.

Re: Swimming Hole
Don't they have laws and regulations about grave depth, and anti-flooding measures? That would seem like a necessity to keep corpses from becoming a public health risk during floods.

Re: Swimming Hole
Throw more dirt in that hole Why dont they dig maybe an extra foot down, and line the bottom with small gravel and rocks and some sand, could that collect the extra water more efficiently? Im not an engineer, not have the capacity to just have the answers |
