'Suspicious' Hanging in India

Young woman in India hanged herself. As is frequent there, the family does not accept that it was suicide and insist that her husband poisoned her and then hanged the body. The police disagree and the autopsy found no lethal toxins in the postmortem screen.

Many of these photos were taken by the family to demonstrate their case. They're complaining about the red marks on her hands and legs, which appear to me to be livor and not injury bruises.

They also complained that her head was back and that her feet were on the floor. The ligature mark further forward on the jaw confused them, as well. The police explained that this was not abnormal in suicidal hangings, but the family remains unconvinced.

Noose placement looks normal to me, livor looks normal, feet look normal. In fact, it was pointed out in one of the local FB groups and is very obvious in a few of the photos that she emptied her bladder while strangling and is actually standing in a rather large puddle of urine. If she'd been poisoned or strangled elsewhere and the body staged as a hanging, the perimortem urine void would have been deposited there instead of directly underneath her body, which is exactly where you'd expect it in a suicidal hanging.

I'm not a forensic investigator, but I've seen quite a few hangings in my time and this one certainly appears to be accurate. But who knows in India.

Re: 'Suspicious' Hanging in India

Its normal to suspect the husband, it's the logical choice for a first suspect. Especially if the family didnt like him in the first place.

Yeah, for sure. And make no mistake, there are a ridiculous amount of men killing their wives over there. I get the mentality of culpability, but it has sort of become the go-to position for about 95% of the female suicides I even research. And in cases like this, where it is (to my amateur eye anyway) very obviously a typical suicidal hanging, it is particularly facepalm worthy.

Re: 'Suspicious' Hanging in India

Whoah, it kinda looks like she is flipping you off :

Ok so the only way this was not a suey would be if she was forced hanged while still alive which looks very hard to do considering the distance between her feet and the floor, is that called a partial suspension?

Re: 'Suspicious' Hanging in India

I wonder if that mark on her chin was from her fingernail trying to save herself when she realized she was still choking with her feet on the ground. I can't help but imagine the last frantic thoughts of the people that go thru this

Re: 'Suspicious' Hanging in India

Before she hanged herself, she had taken a photo of herself with the noose, and had also written a suicide note. But if those Indians will post postmortem pictures on Facebook when they are in denial, then please, let even more Indians be in denial.

By the way, for an Indian woman in her late twenties, she's like really, really hot (at least in my eyes).

Re: 'Suspicious' Hanging in India

I guess she won't make it to Bollywood and become a star after all.
